This was at one time the name of the
computer the site was run on. That server is no more, but the name remains.
The computer was running OpenBSD, and
their mascot at the time was a little devil. However, that mascot is also
no more, and has been replaced by a blowfish.

Pronounced "ray-eh-fire", or something
thereabouts. A palindrome. Comes from the verb "To Reify", meaning "to regard
something abstract as a material or concrete thing." So ultimately, it just
sounds cool, and has little to do with the sites content.

This means the site is non-profit. I work for free.

I suddenly felt the need to
clarify this, and eliminate all further assumptions that this is a website
about satan and drugs (and a non-profit).

What is this place?
Impetus is a large collection of artwork and photography created and
collected since September of 2002. Initally, the site started out as a gallery
of my own work, which is why the majority of the stuff here is mine. However,
people quickly started sending me their own drawings and photos, and I couldn't
resist adding it here too. My ideal goal here is to create a community for
artists to share.
About the Art
The vast majority of the artwork on the site is digital.
Personally, for most of my drawings I use a progam called "The GIMP", not only
because it has an awesome name, but because it's free. Most of the work that is
submitted to me is done in Microsoft Paint, and on occasion Photoshop or
Paint Shop Pro.
About the Photos
The photo section of the site is part of a project I've
been doing where I have taken a photograph everyday since September 4th, 2002
in a horrible effort to try and save a moment of each day in my life. My
photos manage to be only a little better than terrible, but all the photos
submitted to me compensate wonderfully for my lack of talent.
About the Site
Theres a bit of history here. This site was largely
experimental and served largely as a learning tool for myself to get a
handle on developing pages with PHP and MySQL. So everything started out small
and grew slowly. The entire site used to run off of an old box underneath my
bed and hosted over my cable modem. For the amount of people that were actually
visiting the site it worked just fine. Since then, it's grown into something I
can't even try to manage and maintain properly.
Can I send you my work?
Yes. Please do. Even if you don't consider it good, I still
want it. Even if it's just the doodles you make in the borders of your notes in
class, I still want it. Even if you want to throw it away when you're done I
still want it. So e-mail me anything that you've done, good or bad. It's all a
matter of opinion anyway.
